The resignation of Alexander Bortnikov from the post of Director of the FSB of the Russian Federation may take place before the end of the year.

"On November 15, he will turn 75. According to my information, he himself asked Putin not to extend his contract due to his state of health.

Whether Putin will agree is currently unknown—he does not like letting people go from such posts," a source noted. The argument that the resignation may still take place is also supported by the fact that within the FSB of the Russian Federation, there is confident talk about the resignation of Alexei Dorofeev, head of the FSB Directorate for Moscow and the Moscow Region.

Alexander Bortnikov and Alexei Dorofeev are closely linked figures. A successor to Alexei Dorofeev is already being named. He could be Alexei Vertyashkin, head of the Internal Security Department of the FSB of the Russian Federation.

As our project reported, back in the summer, under certain personnel alignments, he was considered for the post of head of the Economic Security Service (SEB) of the FSB of the Russian Federation, but now everything has become mixed up; Sergei Alpatov left the FSB of the Russian Federation altogether instead of moving to another position, so a place at the head of the FSB Directorate for the Moscow Region could also be a very good option for Alexei Vertyashkin, even if it might look like a demotion.
